Someone you know is going for Umrah or Hajj. Maybe it's your parents, your best friend, a colleague, or someone who's been dreaming of visiting Makkah for years.
You'd love to give them something special. But what?
And what if you've never been yourself, or you're not Muslim and have no idea what someone needs for the pilgrimage? (Of course, you don't want to gift umrah essentials that obviously someone else has already gifted).
The good news is, you don't need to know much about Hajj or Umrah to pick a thoughtful gift. You just need to know a little about the person you're buying for.
Here are some Umrah and Hajj gift ideas that go beyond the usual tasbeehs, perfumes and gift hampers.
1. For the one who's always on the go
Gift idea: TAKVA SalahTagโข or Pocket Sejadahโข
You know that person who travels light, has everything organised and somehow fits their entire life into one backpack?
They probably won't appreciate another bulky prayer mat.
Our SalahTagโข is a prayer mat that clips onto a bag like a keychain and weighs just 43 g. Small enough to carry everywhere, but genuinely useful when it's time to pray.
For someone who prefers a larger travel prayer mat, there's the foldable Pocket Sejadahโข.
Both are useful during the Umrah journey and long after they've returned home. Whether they're travelling, working or simply out for the day, they'll have a clean space to pray.
2. For the friend you know a little too well
Gift idea: TAKKITSโข Pilgrim Edition
We all have that one friend. The one who's always cracking jokes, the quiet one who loves meaningful reminders, or the one whose personality you can spot from a mile away.
That's exactly who TAKKITSโข enamel pins are for.
With witty, relatable and Muslim-inspired designs, you can pick a pin that feels so much like them that you can already imagine their reaction.
For someone heading for Hajj or Umrah, the TAKKITS Pilgrim Edition is a particularly fitting choice.
It isn't personalised with their name, but it's personal because you chose it for them. Sometimes that means more.
3. For someone who loves practical little things
Gift idea: TAKVA Wudhu Socks or Bidoo Portable Bidet
Some people don't care much for souvenirs. They'd rather receive something that makes their life easier.
If that sounds like your Muslim friend, here's a type of gift they might genuinely appreciate.
TAKVA Wudhu Socks make performing wudhu (washing before prayer) more convenient by allowing wiping over the socks when the religious conditions are met. They're especially useful for Muslim women travelling for Umrah.
And the Bidoo Portable Bidet? It's one of those things you might never think to buy until you've used a public washroom without water.
Not the most glamorous gifts, perhaps. But surprisingly thoughtful (and much needed) ones.
A quick tip: Men generally cannot wear ordinary socks during ihram, the sacred state entered for pilgrimage rituals. Keep that in mind when gifting.
4. For little ones who want to be part of the journey
Gift idea: DeenBlocksยฎ Hajj Sets or Lil Musafir
When Mum or Dad is leaving for Umrah, children don't always understand why everyone is so excited.
They've heard of the Kaaba, seen pictures of the holy mosques, but what makes these places so special?
That's where the DeenBlocksยฎ comes in.
Instead of just showing them photographs, children can build miniature versions of famous Islamic landmarks while learning about the places their family will visit.
Our Hajj building sets are especially lovely before the trip, giving parents a chance to introduce the pilgrimage through play.
For little adventurers joining the family on their travels, there's also Lil Musafir, a fun travel companion to keep the little fingers busy.
These are meaningful gifts for kids and adults to enjoy together, even after everyone has come home.
5. For someone who's just returned from Umrah or Hajj
Gift idea: Mini DeenBlocksยฎ Collection
There's something special about coming home from Makkah and Madinah.
You leave with a suitcase full of things, but it's the memories you wish you could keep close forever.
So if you're looking for an Umrah return gift, we'd suggest something a little different from the usual Ajwa dates, tasbih or Zamzam water.
Our Mini DeenBlocksยฎ Collection features beautifully detailed, collectible models of famous mosques.
The Mini Masjid Al-Haram and Mini Masjid an-Nabawi are especially meaningful for someone who's just returned from their sacred journey.
Imagine your mum displaying a little model of the Prophet's Mosque on her bedside table. Every time she sees it, she has a small reminder of the place she visited and the prayers she made there.
And there's something else worth knowing.
5% of the production cost value of every Mini DeenBlocks goes towards our Build a Mosque Project. Buyers also receive a certificate recognising their contribution.
It's a keepsake of one mosque that helps contribute towards building another.
Not a bad way to say, "Welcome home. May Allah accept your Umrah."
A quick tip before you buy
Not every Islamic gift is suitable for every stage of the pilgrimage.
For example, perfume and scented toiletries can't be used during ihram, even if they're alcohol-free. Men also can't wear ordinary socks or fitted head coverings while in ihram.
If you're unsure, don't overthink it. Small, travel-friendly gifts are generally easier to pack, while decorative keepsakes are better saved for when someone returns.
Whether you're choosing an Umrah Mubarak gift, a Hajj gift, or even a Ramadan or Eid gift, what matters most is how well it suits the person receiving it.
